Entry for June 30, 2008

Dare I say newborns again?  This week we went all the way to Meridianville to photograph 11 week old M and his big brother C.  Their mom is a good friend of mine and it was so nice to get a chance to chat and catch up.  The boys were very well behaved.  C spent the whole time I was setting up asking if he was going to get to say “Cheese” today.  It was awesome that he was so exited to have his picture done.  Max was cooperative for an 11 week old and we managed to get the special shot Mom wanted to match a baby shot of C, so everything went very well.

I adore newborns and am sad that the rush is now over.  We only have one newborn booked in the next couple of months, and he isn’t going to be born until August!  We have other things to look forward to this week though, so it isn’t all sad.  I might even get some pictures of Ella done, it has been a couple of weeks.

This past week we only had one shoot, another newborn!  Little C was about 3 or 4 weeks old in these shots.  He was such a sweetie.  He was not too interested in having his picture taken, but overall did a great job.  Big brother A wasn’t too into the pictures after about the first 5 minutes, but he lasted long enough for us to get some family shots of this beautiful new family of 4.  Mom and Dad were great to work with and had some wonderful ideas of what they wanted.  It was fantastic to work with such patient and accommodating parents.  It took us just over 3 hours, but we finally got all the shots we wanted.  I think baby C was glad to finally see me go so he could take a real nap without the crazy lady moving him all over the place as he tried to sleep!

Entry for June 8, 2008

This week I had a session at my house so I was able to stick Ella in front of the backdrop before my client arrived.  Ella hammed it up as usual, and I got some way cute shots.  I also made my husband jump in with her so I could get some daddy daughter shots.  This close to Fathers day I thought we should get some that show how much Ella loves her daddy.

I also tried out something new this week.  I have heard and read a lot about “digital painting” where you use various computer programs to “paint” over a photograph.  The technique I was most interested in was the Photoshop smudge technique.  I decided that it was about time I stopped reading about it and gave it a try.  So I choose a simple picture from Ella’s most recent photo shoot and had at it.  I am not sure if I did very good, but I think it isn’t bad for my first try!  It was a lot of fun, and I think I might spend some more time learning how to do this.  I am not much of an artist in the traditional sense, so this may be a way that I can stretch my artistic abilities.

This week I also had a special photo shoot.  I had K over to do a “Fantasy shoot”.  The photographs we took were created especially to make some fantasy fairy photographs for her new bedroom.  She dressed up in an old dance costume, we posed her in front of a plain backdrop and then later in Photoshop I cut her out of the pictures and added her to some nature scenes then added some butterfly wings.  She was a perfect fairy and we got lots of great finished composites for her to choose from.  While she was here, we also had her show off her new bathing suit in front of our new blue backdrop.  She is so photogenic, and listens to directions so well!  I had so much fun with K and her Mom, it was a perfect photo shoot.

Entry for June 1, 2008

Babies, babies everywhere!  This week I got to do another newborn shoot.  I guess it must be baby season!  Little CJ was a perfect baby.  He didn’t cry, he was quiet and he posed well.  I was amazed at how content he was considering that he was wide awake for the majority of the session.  We finally did get him to sleep for a few minuets to get some shots that just weren’t working with him awake, but then he was back up and happily gazing at my lights.  I was thrilled to work with this little bundle of joy.

Also this week… more wedding!  Last week I had only gone through a couple of the wedding pictures, so I thought that you might like to see more this week.  The bride and groom look surprisingly cool and collected considering how hot and sunny it was that day.
