Busting out on the Blog scene February 1, 2008

A new year has begun and PhotographyByShannon.com is ready to break into the world of blogging.

Here on my blog I would like to show off my recent work, give updates about my business and share photography tips with anyone who wants to learn more about the art of photography. To start the year off right, I am going to do all three in this first blog post.

Here are some pictures of my daughter and our new bird PommFritz. Ella loves this bird, he is not so sure about her. So far we are living in harmony and PommFritz is quite the Camera Ham. He always wants to know what everyone is doing and is quite willing to join the people in front of the camera.

And now for the good part. The photo tips!

When taking pictures of your family, try different angles. If every shot of your kids is one where you are standing looking down at them it can get kind of boring! Every angle may not work, but you might find some that surprise you. Try squatting, kneeling or laying on the ground, or standing on a chair or uphill from the subject. If you always shoot "landscape" (longer than it is tall) try shooting "portrait" (taller than it is long) or vice versa. Try angeling the camera. Zoom way in and just get a part of the face/body, Zoom out and show their environment. There are tons of interesting ways to shoot the same subject. Get crazy! Especially with a digital camera, what do you loose? Give it a shot and let me know how it goes.

  1. Very cool alphabet string and she is so cute. In the B is for Bird shot she looks somewhat concerned about the bird though :)
